Creating Separate Product Feeds for Each WPML Language

Deviking Product Feeds Pro supports multilingual WooCommerce stores using WPML.

When WPML is active, each feed can have its own Feed Language, allowing you to create separate XML or CSV feeds for different languages without changing the language currently selected in WordPress Admin.

For example, the same WooCommerce catalog can generate:

products-en.xml
products-el.xml
products-de.xml
products-fr.xml

with each feed using the translated product content for its selected language.

How WPML Feed Language Works

The language is configured independently for each feed.

For example:

Feed:
Google Shopping - English

Feed Language:
English

and:

Feed:
Google Shopping - Greek

Feed Language:
Greek

During generation, Deviking Product Feeds Pro switches to the language configured for that feed before resolving the WooCommerce product data.

After generation finishes, the previous WPML language context is restored.

This works for both:

Manual generation
Scheduled generation

so scheduled feeds do not depend on which language was last selected in the WordPress dashboard.

WPML Detection

When WPML is active and detected, open:

Deviking Feeds → Feeds

Edit a feed and go to the General tab.

A new option is available:

Feed Language

The available languages are based on the languages configured in WPML.

Feed Language Options

The feed can use:

Site default

or a specific WPML language.

For example:

Site default
English
Greek
German
French

The exact languages available depend on your WPML configuration.

Site Default

Select:

Feed Language:
Site default

when the feed should use the normal site/WPML language context.

This is useful when you do not need a dedicated feed for a specific translated language.

For multilingual exports, selecting a specific language is usually clearer because the feed always generates using that language.

Create a Feed for One Language

Suppose your WooCommerce store uses:

English
Greek
German

Start by creating the English feed.

Go to:

Deviking Feeds → Add New Feed

Configure:

Feed Name:
Products - English

Feed Language:
English

Then configure the Mapping, Filters, Variations, Output, and other settings normally.

Use a language-specific filename such as:

products-en.xml

or:

products-en.csv

Save and generate the feed.

Create the Same Feed in Another Language

You do not need to rebuild the entire feed manually.

Duplicate the existing feed and change its language.

For example, duplicate:

Products - English

and rename the copy:

Products - Greek

Then change:

Feed Language:
Greek

and use a different filename:

products-el.xml

Review the copied configuration and generate the new feed.

Recommended Multilingual Structure

A three-language store could use:

FeedFeed LanguageFilename
Products – EnglishEnglishproducts-en.xml
Products – GreekGreekproducts-el.xml
Products – GermanGermanproducts-de.xml

Each feed remains independent.

This means each one can also have its own:

Mapping
Filters
Variation mode
Output settings
Schedule
Remote Destinations
Generation History

What Changes When a Feed Language Is Selected?

During generation, language-aware WooCommerce values are resolved using the selected WPML language.

This includes translated content such as:

Product titles
Descriptions
Short descriptions
Categories
Other language-aware product values

For example, suppose a product has these translations:

English

Title:
Running Shoes

Description:
Lightweight running shoes for daily training.

Greek

Title:
Αθλητικά Παπούτσια

Description:
Ελαφριά αθλητικά παπούτσια για καθημερινή προπόνηση.

An English feed can output:

<product>

Running Shoes

Lightweight running shoes for daily training.

</product>

while the Greek feed can output:

<product>

Αθλητικά Παπούτσια

Ελαφριά αθλητικά παπούτσια για καθημερινή προπόνηση.

</product>

The Mapping can remain the same.

The selected Feed Language determines which translated content is resolved during generation.

Translated Categories

Category sources also follow the selected WPML language when translated category data is available.

For example:

English

Clothing > Shoes

Greek

Ρούχα > Παπούτσια

A feed using:

Source:
Category Path

can therefore generate the category path in the language selected for that feed.

Category Mapping and Multilingual Feeds

Category Mapping remains configurable independently from the WPML language selection.

If an external marketplace requires its own category taxonomy, you can combine:

WPML Feed Language
+
Category Mapping

For example, your Greek WooCommerce category may be:

Αθλητικά Παπούτσια

while the destination expects:

Fashion > Footwear > Running Shoes

Category Mapping controls the external category value, while WPML controls the language context used when resolving the WooCommerce content.

XML Multilingual Example

English feed:

Feed Name:
Products - English

Feed Language:
English

Filename:
products-en.xml

Possible output:

<products>
    <product>
        <sku>SHOE-100</sku>

Running Shoes

Lightweight running shoes.

Footwear > Running Shoes

    </product>
</products>

Greek feed:

Feed Name:
Products - Greek

Feed Language:
Greek

Filename:
products-el.xml

Possible output:

<products>
    <product>
        <sku>SHOE-100</sku>

Αθλητικά Παπούτσια

Ελαφριά αθλητικά παπούτσια.

Παπούτσια > Αθλητικά Παπούτσια

    </product>
</products>

CSV Multilingual Example

The same feature works with CSV feeds.

English:

sku,title,description
SHOE-100,"Running Shoes","Lightweight running shoes."

Greek:

sku,title,description
SHOE-100,"Αθλητικά Παπούτσια","Ελαφριά αθλητικά παπούτσια."

The CSV structure does not need to change simply because the language changes.

Use Language-Specific Filenames

Always give each language feed its own filename.

For example:

products-en.xml
products-el.xml
products-de.xml

Do not configure several language feeds to use the same output filename.

Clear language-specific filenames make the feed URLs easier to identify and prevent confusion when submitting them to external platforms.

Duplicate a Feed for Faster Setup

A practical workflow is to create one complete feed first.

For example:

Products - English

Configure:

Mapping
Filters
Variations
Output
Category Mapping
Destinations

Then duplicate it for each additional language.

After duplication, review:

Feed Name
Feed Language
Filename
Schedule
Destination requirements

A duplicated feed is created with Manual scheduling, so review its schedule before enabling automatic generation.

Example Four-Language Setup

You could create:

Products - English
products-en.xml

Products - Greek
products-el.xml

Products - German
products-de.xml

Products - French
products-fr.xml

All four feeds may share the same basic Mapping while using different WPML language contexts.

Independent Scheduling

Each language feed can have its own schedule.

For example:

Products - English
Schedule: Every 6 hours

Products - Greek
Schedule: Daily

Products - German
Schedule: Daily

When a scheduled generation runs, Deviking Product Feeds Pro uses the Feed Language saved in that specific feed.

You do not need to switch WPML manually before WP-Cron runs.

Manual Generation

The same language handling applies to manual generation.

For example, if you are currently browsing WordPress Admin in English but generate:

Products - Greek

with:

Feed Language:
Greek

the feed generation uses the Greek WPML context.

The WordPress Admin language currently visible to you does not need to match the Feed Language.

Preview the Selected Language

After selecting a Feed Language:

  1. Save the feed.
  2. Run Preview.
  3. Inspect translated product titles.
  4. Check descriptions and short descriptions.
  5. Check translated categories.
  6. Review variation records if the feed includes variations.
  7. Run Validate Feed.
  8. Use Save & Generate when the output is correct.

Preview uses the saved feed configuration, so save the language change before checking the results.

Products Without a Translation

The feed relies on the product content and WPML configuration available on the WooCommerce site.

Before generating a multilingual feed, make sure the required products and relevant content have been translated correctly in WPML.

If a value does not appear as expected, first check the corresponding product or taxonomy translation in WPML.

Variations in Multilingual Feeds

If your feed exports variations, the selected Feed Language applies to the generation context for those records as well.

After creating a multilingual variation feed, use Preview to verify:

Product titles
Variation names
Attributes
Descriptions
Categories

for representative variable products.

Using Different Mapping per Language

Duplicating a feed does not mean all language feeds must remain identical.

For example, the English destination may require:

description

while another destination may require:

short_description

You can modify each feed independently after duplication.

This makes it possible to combine language-specific output with destination-specific feed requirements.

Different Category Mapping per Language Feed

Separate feeds can also use different Category Mapping configurations when required.

For example:

English Feed
→ Marketplace English taxonomy

and:

Greek Feed
→ Marketplace Greek taxonomy

Because feeds are independent, each multilingual feed can be configured according to the destination it serves.

Different Remote Destinations per Language

The same principle applies to remote delivery.

For example:

Products - English
→ Marketplace UK SFTP

Products - German
→ German Distributor FTP

Products - Greek
→ Greek Marketplace SFTP

Each feed can use its own Remote Destinations while still resolving product data through the selected WPML language.

Feed Language Is Not Visible

If you do not see:

Feed Language

in the General tab, check that WPML is active and loaded.

The Feed Language setting appears only when Deviking Product Feeds Pro detects WPML.

After confirming WPML is active, reopen the feed editor and check the General tab again.

A Language Change Does Not Appear in the Feed

If you change:

Feed Language:
English

to:

Feed Language:
Greek

but the generated file still contains the previous content, make sure you save the configuration before generating.

Generate Feed uses the last saved feed configuration.

If you have unsaved changes, use:

Save & Generate

or save the feed first.

Recommended Workflow

For a multilingual WooCommerce store:

  1. Configure and translate the products in WPML.
  2. Create the first feed in Deviking Feeds → Add New Feed.
  3. Select the first Feed Language.
  4. Configure Mapping, Filters, Variations, and Output.
  5. Use a language-specific filename.
  6. Save the feed.
  7. Run Preview.
  8. Run Validate Feed.
  9. Generate the feed.
  10. Duplicate the feed for the next language.
  11. Rename the duplicated feed.
  12. Change Feed Language.
  13. Change the filename.
  14. Review its schedule and other destination-specific settings.
  15. Preview, validate, and generate the new feed.
  16. Repeat for every required language.

Example Complete Setup

A store has English as its default language and also provides Greek and German translations.

Create:

Feed 1

Name:
Google Shopping - English

Feed Language:
English

Filename:
google-en.xml

Duplicate it and configure:

Feed 2

Name:
Google Shopping - Greek

Feed Language:
Greek

Filename:
google-el.xml

Duplicate again:

Feed 3

Name:
Google Shopping - German

Feed Language:
German

Filename:
google-de.xml

You now have three independently generated feeds:

google-en.xml
google-el.xml
google-de.xml

each using the WPML language configured for that feed.

Multilingual Feed Checklist

Before submitting a multilingual feed, confirm that:

  • WPML is active.
  • The required WPML languages are configured.
  • Products are translated into the required language.
  • The correct Feed Language is selected.
  • The feed has its own language-specific filename.
  • Product titles appear in the expected language.
  • Descriptions appear in the expected language.
  • Categories resolve correctly.
  • Variation records are correct where applicable.
  • Preview shows the expected translated content.
  • Validate Feed reports no blocking issues.
  • Scheduled feeds have the required Status and Schedule.
  • Each language feed has been generated separately.

With per-feed WPML language selection, Deviking Product Feeds Pro can maintain separate multilingual XML or CSV feeds while keeping each feed’s Mapping, schedule, output, and delivery settings independent.
