Managing Price and Stock for Variable Products
Variable WooCommerce products can contain multiple variations, each with its own SKU, price, stock status, stock quantity, attributes and image.
Deviking Product Feeds Pro lets you control whether variable parents, individual variations, or both appear in a feed and which price and stock values are exported for each record.
Choosing How Variable Products Are Exported
Open the feed settings and select the required Product & Variation Mode.
Available modes include:
- All products + variations – include variable parents
- All products + variations – exclude variable parents
- Simple products only
- Variable parents only
- Variations only
- Variable parents + variations
The correct mode depends on the destination platform.
Some marketplaces expect each purchasable variation as an individual product.
Others may require only the parent product.
Variation-Specific Prices
When a variation is exported as its own feed record, price sources resolve against that variation.
Available standard price sources include:
- Regular Price
- Sale Price
- Current Price
For example, consider a variable T-shirt:
Small
Current Price: 20.00
Medium
Current Price: 22.00
Large
Current Price: 25.00When variations are exported individually, each record can contain its own price.
Current Price
Current Price represents the WooCommerce price currently applicable to the exported product or variation.
This is generally the most convenient source when the destination requires the active selling price.
Regular Price
Use Regular Price when the destination needs the normal WooCommerce price independently from any Sale Price.
For example:
Regular Price: 100.00
Sale Price: 80.00The Regular Price source returns:
100.00Sale Price
Use Sale Price when the destination requires the WooCommerce sale value separately.
If the product or variation does not have a Sale Price, the source may be empty.
A Fallback Source can be configured where appropriate.
For example:
Source:
Sale Price
Fallback Source:
Regular PriceWooCommerce Tax-Aware Variation Prices
Deviking Product Feeds Pro also provides tax-aware price sources.
For variation records, these values are calculated for the variation being exported.
Including tax
- Regular Price incl. tax
- Sale Price incl. tax
- Current Price incl. tax
Excluding tax
- Regular Price excl. tax
- Sale Price excl. tax
- Current Price excl. tax
This allows the same variable product to generate the correct tax-aware price for every exported variation.
Example
Suppose a variation has:
Current Price:
100.00and its WooCommerce tax configuration produces a tax-inclusive price of:
124.00Then:
Current Price excl. taxcan return:
100.00while:
Current Price incl. taxcan return:
124.00The calculation uses WooCommerce tax handling rather than a hardcoded tax percentage in the feed.
Applying a Numeric Modifier to Variation Prices
Numeric Modifier can be applied directly to a price mapping.
For example:
Source:
Current Price
Numeric Modifier:
Decrease by %
Value:
10If different variations have prices of:
20.00
22.00
25.00their calculated feed values become:
18.00
19.80
22.50The actual WooCommerce variation prices are not modified.
Conditional Variation Pricing
When different calculations should apply only to certain products or variations, use a Dynamic Attribute.
For example:
IF Color equals Red
→ Current Price
→ Decrease by 10%IF Color equals Blue
→ Current Price
→ Decrease by 5%ELSE
→ Current PriceThe Dynamic Attribute can then be selected as the price source in the feed mapping.
Formatting Variation Prices
After resolving or calculating a variation price, use Number Format when the destination requires a specific numeric format.
For example:
22.5can be formatted as:
22.50or:
22,50depending on the feed requirements.
Numeric calculation and Number Format are separate operations.
Variation Stock Status
Use Stock Status to export the WooCommerce stock state of the record.
Possible WooCommerce values include:
instock
outofstock
onbackorderThese values can be exported directly or converted to destination-specific labels using Dynamic Attributes or other mapping tools.
Variation Stock Quantity
Use Stock Quantity when the destination requires an actual quantity.
For example:
Variation: Black / Medium
Stock Quantity: 8can generate:
<quantity>8</quantity>When WooCommerce is not managing stock quantity for a specific record, the available value depends on the WooCommerce stock configuration.
Manage Stock
The Manage Stock source can be used when the destination needs to know whether WooCommerce stock management is enabled for the record.
This is separate from Stock Status and Stock Quantity.
Backorders
Use the Backorders source when the destination requires the WooCommerce backorder configuration.
This can also be used as part of a Dynamic Attribute or filtering rule.
Creating Marketplace Availability Values
Many destinations do not expect WooCommerce values such as:
instock
outofstock
onbackorderYou can create a Dynamic Attribute to convert them.
For example:
IF Stock Status equals instock
→ in_stockIF Stock Status equals onbackorder
→ preorderELSE
→ out_of_stockThe resulting Dynamic Attribute can then be mapped to the marketplace availability field.
Parent and Variation Data
Variation records can use variation-specific information while still accessing parent product data where necessary.
For example, the variation may provide:
- Variation SKU
- Variation Price
- Variation Stock
- Selected variation attributes
- Variation image
while parent-aware sources can provide data stored on the parent product.
This is useful when WooCommerce stores shared information only on the variable parent.
Product Titles for Variations
The standard Name / Title source and variation-specific naming can serve different purposes.
For a variation record, the standard product title can be used where the parent product name is required.
Variation-aware naming can include the variation’s selected attributes where needed.
Choose the source that matches the destination feed specification.
Variation Images
When a variation has its own image, the variation image can be exported.
If the variation does not have a dedicated image, image sources can fall back to the parent product image where supported.
This helps prevent variation records from being exported without an image.
Product Categories and Variations
Variations do not maintain an independent WooCommerce category hierarchy.
When category data is required for variation records, Deviking Product Feeds Pro uses the parent product categories.
This also applies to:
- Parent Category
- Child Category
- Category Path
- Assigned Category Mapping
Filtering Variable Products and Variations
Quick Filters and Advanced Filter Groups can be combined with Product & Variation Mode.
For example, you can:
- Export only variations from selected categories
- Remove out-of-stock variations
- Export products only within a price range
- Exclude selected SKUs
- Create different feeds for different types of products
The Product & Variation Mode determines which record types are eligible, while filters determine which eligible records remain in the feed.
Example: Variation-Only Marketplace Feed
Suppose a marketplace requires every purchasable variation as a separate item.
Configure:
Product & Variation Mode:
Variations onlyThen map:
id → Variation/Product ID
sku → SKU
title → Variation-aware title
price → Current Price incl. tax
availability → Dynamic Availability Attribute
quantity → Stock Quantity
image → Featured Image URLIf required, use Number Format on the price field and Category Mapping for marketplace categories.
Example: Parent and Variations Together
If the destination requires both variable parents and child variations, choose:
Variable parents + variationsThe parent and variation records can then use the same Mapping while source resolution adapts to the record being processed.
Always confirm that the destination platform allows both record types before using this mode.
Price and Stock Do Not Modify WooCommerce
Feed processing does not change the underlying WooCommerce product.
Using:
- Numeric Modifier
- Dynamic pricing
- Number Format
- Availability mapping
changes only the generated feed value.
It does not alter:
- WooCommerce Regular Price
- WooCommerce Sale Price
- Stored stock quantity
- Checkout price
- Existing orders
Best Practices
Use Variations only when the destination expects every purchasable variation as an independent product.
Use variation-specific price and stock sources whenever individual variations have different values.
Use WooCommerce tax-aware price sources when the destination explicitly requires prices including or excluding tax.
Use Dynamic Attributes for marketplace-specific availability labels and conditional pricing.
Use Number Format after price calculation to match the destination’s numeric requirements.
Check a generated feed containing several variations before enabling automatic delivery.
