Some WordPress websites disable the normal WP-Cron trigger in wp-config.php because the server runs scheduled tasks through a system cron job instead.

This can be valid

Disabling the default request-triggered WP-Cron mechanism is not automatically a problem if a working server cron regularly calls the WordPress cron endpoint or otherwise runs due events.

When expiration stops working

If WP-Cron is disabled and no replacement scheduler runs WordPress cron events, both individual expiration events and the fallback sweep may be delayed indefinitely.

What to check

• Confirm whether DISABLE_WP_CRON is enabled.
• Confirm a server cron replacement exists.
• Confirm the replacement runs successfully.
• Test with a short expiration schedule.

Hosting providers can usually confirm whether WordPress cron execution is configured correctly on the server.
