Custom URL vs Existing Content Redirect Priority

Destination resolution

When an expired item uses Redirect visitors, the plugin first checks the saved Custom URL.

If a Custom URL is available, that URL becomes the redirect destination.

Existing content fallback

If the Custom URL is empty, the plugin checks the saved Existing content target. When a valid target ID exists, the plugin retrieves that item’s current permalink and uses it as the redirect destination.

If no destination exists

If neither a Custom URL nor a valid Existing content destination is available, the plugin does not have a URL to redirect to.

Recommendation

Use one destination method per content item whenever possible. This keeps the configuration clear and avoids ambiguity when the expiration later becomes active.
