Troubleshooting Expiration Redirects
Confirm the expiration status
The redirect is intended to activate after the item has been processed as expired. Check the Post Expiration status and the Expiration column in the content list.
Confirm the action
Edit the item and verify that Redirect visitors is the saved Action after expiration.
Check the destination
- Verify the Custom URL is valid, or
- verify the Existing content target still exists and is published.
Check for caching
Full-page cache, server cache, CDN cache, and caching plugins can sometimes serve a previously cached response before WordPress executes redirect logic. Clear relevant caches and test the original URL again in a private browser window.
Check for redirect conflicts
Another redirect plugin, SEO plugin, web server rule, or CDN rule may process the request before or after WordPress. If the wrong redirect occurs, review other redirect systems configured on the website.
Avoid redirect loops
Do not point expired content back to itself or create a chain where destination pages redirect back to the original URL.
