Deviking Post Expiration

Recommended First Configuration

Choose only the post types you need

Start by opening Post Expiration in the WordPress admin menu. Enable expiration only for the content types where you plan to use it.

For a standard website, enabling Posts and Pages is usually enough. If your website uses public Custom Post Types, enable them only when those items also need scheduled expiration.

Choose a safe default action

Move to Draft is a practical default because it removes expired content from public view while keeping it available in WordPress. This makes it easier to recover content if a schedule was configured incorrectly.

Set a useful default time

The plugin default is 23:59. You can change it to a time that matches your normal content workflow. For example, a website that expires daily offers at the end of each day may keep 23:59 as the default.

Test before using important content

  1. Create a temporary test post.
  2. Schedule expiration a few minutes in the future.
  3. Choose Move to Draft.
  4. Wait for the scheduled time.
  5. Confirm that WordPress processes the expiration as expected.

This quick test confirms that WordPress scheduled events are working correctly on your hosting environment.
