Setting the Default Expiration Action

What the default action controls

The Default expiration action determines which action appears automatically when an item does not already have its own saved expiration action.

Available defaults

• Move to Draft
• Set as Private
• Move to Trash
• Redirect visitors

Choosing the right default

Use Move to Draft when most expired content should disappear from the frontend but remain easy to restore. Use Private when expired content should remain available to authorized users. Use Trash when expired content is normally disposable. Choose Redirect visitors when temporary pages normally need to send visitors to replacement content.

Individual items can override the default

The global default does not lock the action. You can choose a different action for any individual Post, Page, or supported Custom Post Type.
