Deviking Post Expiration

Expired Content Still Appears Because of Caching

How caching can affect expiration

The plugin can correctly process an expiration while a caching layer continues serving an older cached version of the page.

Possible cache layers

  • WordPress caching plugins
  • Server or hosting cache
  • Reverse proxy cache
  • CDN cache
  • Browser cache

What to do

  1. Confirm the item shows Expired or has changed to the expected WordPress status.
  2. Clear the WordPress/plugin cache.
  3. Clear server or CDN cache if used.
  4. Test the URL in a private browser window.

Redirect-specific note

If a page was cached before expiration, the cached HTML may be served without reaching WordPress redirect logic. Cache invalidation is therefore especially important for time-sensitive redirect schedules.
