Expired Content Still Appears Because of Caching
How caching can affect expiration
The plugin can correctly process an expiration while a caching layer continues serving an older cached version of the page.
Possible cache layers
- WordPress caching plugins
- Server or hosting cache
- Reverse proxy cache
- CDN cache
- Browser cache
What to do
- Confirm the item shows Expired or has changed to the expected WordPress status.
- Clear the WordPress/plugin cache.
- Clear server or CDN cache if used.
- Test the URL in a private browser window.
Redirect-specific note
If a page was cached before expiration, the cached HTML may be served without reaching WordPress redirect logic. Cache invalidation is therefore especially important for time-sensitive redirect schedules.
