Understanding Print Rules

Print Rules define when WooCommerce should create a print job, what should be printed, and where the job should be sent.

They are the core of automatic printing in Deviking Order Autoprint.

A rule can combine an order trigger, optional conditions, a print template, and a target Device and Printer.

1. What a Print Rule Controls

A Print Rule can define:

  • The WooCommerce order status that triggers printing
  • Which orders should match
  • Which Device should receive the job
  • Which Printer should be used
  • Which template should be printed
  • Which paper format should be used
  • How many copies should be printed
  • Optional fallback printing behavior
  • Document layout and branding

2. Example of a Simple Rule

A basic rule might be:

Rule Name: Processing Orders
Trigger: Processing
Device: Warehouse PC
Printer: Warehouse A4 Printer
Template: Standard Order
Paper Format: A4
Copies: 1

When an order reaches the Processing status, the rule creates a print job for the selected printer.

3. Rules Can Include Conditions

You can make a rule more specific by adding conditions.

For example:

Trigger: Processing
Payment Method: Cash on Delivery
Shipping Country: Greece

Only orders matching those conditions will create a print job through that rule.

4. Available Rule Conditions

Print Rules can use conditions such as:

  • Payment method
  • Shipping method
  • Product category
  • Shipping country
  • Shipping state / region
  • Minimum order total
  • Maximum order total

These conditions allow you to create different printing workflows for different types of orders.

5. Multiple Rules Can Be Active at the Same Time

A WooCommerce store can use several enabled Print Rules simultaneously.

For example:

Rule 1
Processing orders → Warehouse A4 printer

Rule 2
Food category orders → Kitchen thermal printer

Rule 3
Cash on Delivery orders → Office printer

An order may match more than one rule, depending on how the rules are configured.

6. Rules Are Independent

Each Print Rule can have its own:

  • Trigger
  • Conditions
  • Device
  • Printer
  • Template
  • Paper format
  • Copies
  • Branding
  • Layout
  • Fallback printer

This makes it possible to build different workflows for different departments.

7. Disabled Rules

A disabled rule remains saved but does not create automatic print jobs.

This is useful when you want to temporarily stop a workflow without deleting its configuration.

8. Rules and Manual Printing

Print Rules are mainly used for automatic printing.

Manual printing can also be performed from WooCommerce orders when needed.

9. Printer Assignment

Every automatic rule targets a specific:

Device → Printer

The Device identifies the Windows computer running the Agent.

The Printer identifies the exact Windows printer that should receive the job.

10. Rule Changes Affect New Jobs

When you edit a Print Rule, the new settings apply to future print jobs created by that rule.

Existing jobs keep the configuration assigned when they were created.
