Using 80mm and 58mm Thermal Printers

Deviking Order Autoprint supports common thermal printer widths, including 80mm and 58mm.

Thermal printers are ideal for compact documents such as receipts, kitchen tickets, picking slips and internal order notes.

1. 80mm Thermal Printers

80mm thermal printers provide more horizontal space and are usually easier to read.

Typical uses include:

  • Customer receipts
  • Kitchen tickets
  • Order preparation slips
  • Compact packing documents
  • Internal order summaries

When creating or editing a Print Rule, select:

Paper Format → 80mm Thermal

2. 58mm Thermal Printers

58mm printers use narrower paper and are suitable when space is limited.

Typical uses include:

  • Short receipts
  • Simple kitchen tickets
  • Basic preparation slips
  • Compact internal notes

Select:

Paper Format → 58mm Thermal

Because the printable width is smaller, fewer fields and shorter text usually produce better results.

3. Printer Installation in Windows

The thermal printer must first be installed correctly in Windows.

Before using it with Deviking Order Autoprint:

  • Install the correct printer driver
  • Confirm that Windows detects the printer
  • Print a normal Windows test page
  • Make sure the printer is not paused or offline

If Windows cannot print to the device, the Agent cannot use it reliably.

4. Selecting the Correct Paper Width

Choose the paper width that matches the physical printer.

For example:

  • 80mm printer → 80mm Thermal
  • 58mm printer → 58mm Thermal

Using the wrong width may cause:

  • Text wrapping
  • Clipped content
  • Incorrect alignment
  • Excessive blank space

5. Thermal-Friendly Templates

Thermal printers work best with compact templates such as:

  • Customer Receipt
  • Kitchen Ticket

You can also customize other templates for thermal printing by reducing the number of visible fields.

6. Keep the Layout Simple

For narrow thermal paper, avoid overly complex layouts.

Recommended practices include:

  • Use fewer columns
  • Keep product information concise
  • Avoid very large logos
  • Use readable font sizes
  • Limit unnecessary customer details
  • Keep custom text short

This is especially important on 58mm paper.

7. Logo Size

If you use a logo on a thermal document, make sure it fits within the printable width.

Logo size and alignment can be configured inside the Print Rule.

A smaller centered logo usually works well on thermal paper.

8. Paper Margins

Thermal printers often have limited printable width.

If content is clipped near the edges, adjust the Print Rule margins.

You may also need to check the printer driver settings in Windows.

9. Auto-Cut

Compatible thermal printers may support:

Auto-Cut

When enabled, the printer can cut the paper automatically after a completed document.

This feature depends on the printer hardware and driver support.

10. RAW ESC/POS Mode

Compatible thermal printers may also support:

RAW ESC/POS

This mode allows compatible ESC/POS commands to be sent directly to supported thermal printers.

Use RAW ESC/POS only with printers that support this printing method.

If you are unsure, use the standard Windows printing mode.

11. Multiple Thermal Printers

You can use multiple thermal printers on the same or different Devices.

For example:

Kitchen PC

  • Kitchen 80mm Printer

Bar PC

  • Bar 80mm Printer

Front Desk

  • Customer 58mm Printer

Different Print Rules can route orders to each printer independently.

12. Test the Output

Before using a thermal printer for automatic printing, run a test print and verify:

  • Paper width is correct
  • Text is readable
  • Product names fit correctly
  • Totals are visible
  • Logo size is appropriate
  • No content is clipped
  • Auto-cut works correctly, if enabled

Once the output is correct, the thermal printer is ready for normal use.
