What Happens When a Printer Goes Offline
If a printer becomes unavailable, Deviking Order Autoprint keeps the print job under control instead of silently losing it.
The exact behavior depends on whether the rule uses only a primary printer or also has a fallback printer configured.
1. Printer Becomes Unavailable
A printer may go offline because:
- It is powered off
- The USB cable is disconnected
- The network or Wi-Fi connection is lost
- Windows reports the printer as offline
- The printer driver stops responding
- The printer is removed from Windows
The Deviking Print Agent reports printer availability back to WooCommerce.
2. Jobs Assigned to an Offline Printer
If a job is assigned to a printer that is unavailable, the Agent cannot complete the print normally.
The job may remain pending or move to a failed state depending on the point at which the issue occurs.
3. Automatic Retry
Failed print attempts can be retried automatically.
Deviking Order Autoprint supports retry handling so temporary printer problems do not immediately require manual intervention.
If the printer becomes available again, the job may be processed successfully on a later attempt.
4. Retry Limit
To avoid endless retry loops, failed jobs are retried only up to the configured retry limit.
After the retry limit is reached, the job remains marked as failed and can be reviewed manually.
5. Fallback Printer
If the Print Rule includes a fallback printer, the system can redirect the job when the primary destination remains unavailable for the configured period.
Example:
Primary
Warehouse PC → Packing Printer
Fallback
Office PC → Office Printer
This helps keep printing operational when the primary printer or Agent is unavailable.
6. When the Printer Comes Back Online
Once Windows detects the printer again and the Agent reports it as available, new print jobs can use it normally.
You do not need to pair the Agent again.
7. Failed Jobs
If a job has already reached the Failed state, go to:
Deviking Order Autoprint → Print Jobs
From there you can:
- Retry the job
- Reassign it to another printer
- Cancel it if it is no longer required
8. Check the Agent Activity
If you are unsure why a printer is unavailable, open the Deviking Print Agent and check:
Activity
The Agent may report a Windows printing error or connection problem.
You can also use:
Open logs folder
for more detailed troubleshooting information.
9. Check Windows
Before changing WooCommerce settings, confirm the printer works directly in Windows.
Check:
Windows Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners
Verify that:
- The printer exists
- It is online
- It is not paused
- The correct driver is installed
- A Windows test page prints successfully
10. No Need to Recreate the Print Rule
A temporary printer outage does not require you to recreate the Print Rule.
Once the printer is available again, the existing rule can continue using it.
