Changing the Printer Used by a Print Rule

You can change the printer assigned to any Print Rule at any time.

This is useful when replacing a printer, moving a workflow to another computer, or temporarily redirecting print jobs.

1. Open Print Rules

In your WordPress dashboard, go to:

Deviking Order Autoprint → Print Rules

Find the rule you want to update and open it for editing.

2. Select a Different Device

If the new printer is connected to a different Windows computer, first change the:

Device

The printer list will then update based on the printers reported by that Device.

3. Select the New Printer

Choose the new printer from the available list.

For example:

Old destination
Warehouse PC → HP LaserJet

New destination
Warehouse PC → Brother Laser

or:

New destination
Office PC → Office Printer

4. Check Paper Format

Make sure the new printer supports the paper format configured in the rule.

For example:

  • A4 rule → A4-capable printer
  • A5 rule → A5-capable printer
  • 80mm Thermal rule → 80mm thermal printer
  • 58mm Thermal rule → 58mm thermal printer

If the paper format does not match the new printer, update the rule accordingly.

5. Review Printer-Specific Settings

After changing printers, review settings such as:

  • Orientation
  • Margins
  • Copies
  • Auto-Cut
  • RAW ESC/POS
  • Fallback printer

Some settings may not be appropriate for the new printer type.

6. Save the Rule

Click:

Save Rule

New matching print jobs will now use the newly selected printer.

7. Existing Print Jobs

Changing the printer in a Print Rule affects future jobs created by that rule.

Already-created Print Jobs may still keep the printer that was assigned when they were created.

If necessary, use the Print Jobs screen to reassign an existing job manually.

8. Test the New Printer

After changing the printer, run a test print and confirm:

  • The correct Device receives the job
  • The correct printer is used
  • The paper size is correct
  • The layout is not clipped
  • Printer-specific features work correctly

9. Changing Only the Printer

If the new printer is connected to the same Device, you only need to change the printer selection.

The Agent connection does not need to be paired again.
