Choosing Paper Format and Printer Settings
Each Print Rule can use its own paper format and printer configuration.
These settings determine how the document is prepared before it is sent to the selected Windows printer.
1. Open the Print Rule
In your WordPress dashboard, go to:
Deviking Order Autoprint → Print Rules
Edit the rule you want to configure.
2. Select the Paper Format
Choose the format that matches the printer and document type.
Available options include:
- A4
- A5
- 80mm Thermal
- 58mm Thermal
3. A4 and A5
A4 and A5 are intended for standard page printers.
Typical uses include:
- Standard Order
- Packing List
- Delivery Note
- Internal order documents
For these formats, you can also configure page orientation.
4. Thermal Formats
80mm and 58mm are intended for compatible thermal printers.
Typical uses include:
- Customer Receipt
- Kitchen Ticket
- Preparation slips
- Compact order documents
Thermal layouts use a narrower printable area, so keeping the document simple usually produces the best result.
5. Orientation
For standard page formats, choose the appropriate orientation:
- Portrait
- Landscape
Portrait is normally suitable for standard order documents.
Landscape can be useful for wider tables or additional columns.
6. Margins
Configure the document margins according to the selected printer.
Margins control the spacing between the paper edge and the document content.
You can adjust areas such as:
- Top
- Right
- Bottom
- Left
If content is clipped, increase the margins.
For thermal printers, avoid unnecessarily large side margins because they reduce the available printing width.
7. Number of Copies
Set the number of copies that should be printed for each job.
For example:
Copies: 1
or:
Copies: 2
Copies are configured independently for each Print Rule.
8. Thermal Paper Width
When using a thermal printer, make sure the selected format matches the actual printer width.
For example:
80mm Thermal → 80mm printer
58mm Thermal → 58mm printer
Using the wrong width may cause text wrapping or clipping.
9. Auto-Cut
Compatible thermal printers may support:
Auto-Cut
When enabled, the printer can automatically cut the paper after the document has finished printing.
This feature depends on the printer hardware and driver.
10. RAW ESC/POS
Compatible thermal printers may also use:
RAW ESC/POS
This advanced mode can provide more direct control over supported thermal printer functions.
Use it only with ESC/POS-compatible printers.
If standard Windows printing works correctly, RAW mode is not required.
11. Fallback Printer
For important workflows, you can configure an alternative printing destination.
A fallback setup can include:
- Fallback Device
- Fallback Printer
- Offline timeout
If the primary destination remains unavailable, the job can be redirected to the fallback printer.
12. Match Settings to the Physical Printer
Make sure the Print Rule configuration matches the actual printer.
For example:
A4 Office Printer
- A4
- Portrait
- Standard margins
Kitchen Thermal Printer
- 80mm Thermal
- Small margins
- Auto-Cut enabled
13. Windows Printer Settings
The Windows printer driver can also affect the output.
Check the Windows printer preferences for:
- Paper size
- Orientation
- Scaling
- Printable area
- Cutter settings
Avoid conflicting settings between Windows and the Print Rule where possible.
14. Test the Configuration
After changing printer settings, run a test print and confirm:
- Correct paper format
- Correct orientation
- Correct number of copies
- No clipped content
- Acceptable margins
- Auto-Cut works if enabled
- Thermal output is readable
